What Causes Nail Fungus
Fungus tends to live in moist dark areas. Showers are probably the most common area where fungus can be transferred from person to person becuse the nail fungus from one individual can live in the shower room area until another individual comes in contact with it. Other common areas where fungus can be present are gyms, saunas and nail salons.
Fungus gets under the nail by getting in the space between the nail and the toe, or by entering small cuts or cracks on the toes and fingers.
In cases where fungus is found in the feet, wearing socks and shoes with poor venitilation provides the perfect environment for the fungus to continue to grow. In the case of finger nails, exposure to water (hand washing, dishes, etc) helps keep the fungus growing and spreading.
Poor circulation also plays a factor in nail fungus. If you have poor circulation, your immune system does not work as well in successfully finding and dealing with infections. Therefore it takes longer for the body to detect the fungus, giving itmore time to grow and spread.
A lowere immune system in general can also lead to a fungal infection if the immune system does not detect and deal with the fungus immediately. Once nail fungus has taken hold, nail fungus management will be needed using chemical or natural fungicides.
